Mediazoic is pleased to announce that it is teaming up with iconic Toronto radio producer David Bray and international record producer and recording artist Chris Birkett to create the Mediazoic Studio In The Cloud, a full service radio and record production facility aimed at integrating all of Mediazoic’s music promotion activities under one roof.

Bray summarizes the initiative as follows: “Working with Chris and Mediazoic promises to be a great deal of fun – I’m very excited about the possibilities. As the radio and recording worlds continue to evolve, partnerships such as this one that build bridges between established people and organizations and their innovative successors are a key path to the future.”

Setting up shop in Bray’s state-of-the-art studio will allow Mediazoic to capture exclusive, premium-quality performances of artists that Mediazoic promotes on its network of Internet radio stations and through its other digital and physical networks. With the help of Canadian music man Serge Sloimovits, Mediazoic will also offer in-house artist development services, such as applying for funding on behalf of a carefully-curated selection of artists.

Birkett, previously based out of his own studio in Paris, France, sees the venture as an opportunity to get a handle on Canada’s thriving independent music scene. “Internationally, Canada is known as a real hotbed of talent. As an artist, I’m really excited about some of the collaborations that will result from this, and as an engineer and producer, I can’t wait to share some tricks of the trade that I’ve learned over the years with some up-and-coming Canadian artists.”

Studio facilities include 128 Channel Pro Tools HD Accel 3 w/Pro Tools 8 software, Logic Pro 9, Digidesign Digi Translator, Massive SFX Library and Digital Plug-ins, Tama Swingstar Drum Kit with DW pedals and SoundEdge hats, every size and shape of electric and acoustic guitar, over 50 world music instruments (oud, tablas, sitar, harmonium, zither, bouzoukis, etc), microphone preamps (Avalon 737, Focusrite Blue 215, Focusrite Quad), a variety of microphones (Neumann U87s, RE 20s, AKG 451, Sennheiser 441/Evolution600, Rode NT5 Matched Pair, SM57s), Digidesign Control 24 Mix Control Surface, Yamaha S90 88-Key Weighted Action Synthesizer, and much more.

Mediazoic and the Independent Digital Licensing Agency (IDLA) today announced the formation of a strategic partnership, which will see IDLA license the music catalogues of twenty independent Canadian music labels for streaming on Mediazoic’s internet radio network. IDLA members will also be able to create and monetize their own content streams on the Mediazoic system, enabling promotion of their music across a variety of new media platforms.

Geoff Kulawick, Executive Director of IDLA, says. “Mediazoic’s new service provides a great opportunity for our members’ music to reach some very interesting and diverse audience segments. The real winners here are fans of independent music in Canada.”

Because streamers on the Mediazoic system decide on the music they want to play, it is important for their curated streams that a diverse catalogue of high-quality music is available for them to share with their listeners. The Mediazoic system keeps track of all “listens” on the network, allowing royalties to be paid not only to the creators of the music, but also to other stakeholders in the music ecosystem.

“It used to be that almost everything you heard on the radio was associated with one of the four major labels, but that is no longer the case,” said Greg Nisbet, Mediazoic’s founder and CEO. “These days, not only some of the best music being made, but even some of the best-known, is coming from independents. Mediazoic and The Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame/Le Panthéon des Auteurs et Compositeurs Canadiens (CSHF/PACC) today announced the formation of a strategic partnership, which will see CSHF/PACC curate a stream of premium Canadian songwriting content on Mediazoic’s internet radio network.

“Few people, even Canadians, are aware of the depth of Canada’s rich musical heritage and the enormous impact our country’s songwriters have had on
contemporary music around the world.” said Dominic Denny, Executive Director of CSHF/PACC. “This partnership with a very exciting new service puts us in an ideal position to expose more people on more platforms to that deep well of Canadian songwriting talent.”

As part of the CSHF//PACC’s mandate to honour, celebrate and educate Canadians about the outstanding accomplishments of Canadian popular music songwriters, a special gala honouring inductees has been held annually since 2003, featuring live performances by a who’s who of contributors to Canada’s music legacy. Recorded in high-quality sound, these never-before-heard performances form the basis for programming a new, customized Mediazoic channel.
